Abstract

Few poets have managed to express the emotion of growing old as a man and as an artist with the mystery and complexity shown by Guillermo Carnero. This article explores the theme of becoming old as a poet and the challenges of representing this process artistically in the last five poetry collections of Guillermo Carnero in order to explore the presence of the topos of time in his whole oeuvre and to emphasize what is new in Regiones devastadas (2017), climax of this poetic endeavor. The article explores how the poet dialogues with multiple cultural referents (such as Tiziano or Luis Cernuda) to advance in the definition of what old age is for Carnero.
