This article first looks back at the seminal works of linguistic insecurity (LI), highlighting the lack of conceptualisation of the phenomena of hypocorrection. We then propose a new definition of these phenomena, as being characteristic, via a process of conscientization, of risktaking action, revealing a parrhesiastic subject. Finally, we will use Oliver’s biographical research interview (BRI) to illustrate how these phenomena of hypocorrection are taken into account. This BRI will then set the boundaries of this emancipatory (self) empowerment, through the implementation of a parrhesiastic pact, and an LI, that we have deemed critical.
