Sharon Acoose served provincial sentences over a number of years in Canada, and has since gone on to complete an undergraduate degree in Human Justice and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Regina. She is currently working on her Ph.D. and is Assistant Professor of Social Work at the First Nations University of Canada. She is actively involved in a national research project spearheaded by Dr. Colleen Anne Dell that is investigating the role of stigma and identity in Aboriginal women’s healing journeys from problematic substance use.
