Author Biography

Shelly Clevenger, Sam Houston State University

Dr. Shelly Clevenger is Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Victim Studies Department at Sam Houston State University. She has authored peerreviewed journal publications, book chapters and books on the connection between sexual assault, intimate partner abuse and cybervictimization. She also had the honor to present her research on cybervictimizations at the United Nations Women in New York City and a U.S. Congressional Briefing in Washington, DC. Dr. Clevenger is the recipient of national awards for her teaching, activism, and research, including the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Victimology Bob Jerin Book of the Year Award and Faculty Teacher of the Year. She also received the American Society of Criminology Division of Feminist Criminology Distinguished Scholar Award and Inconvenient Woman of the Year Award for her activism, as well as Feminist Criminology’s Article of the Year Award for her sole-authored article regarding mothers of sexual assault survivors. Sam Houston State University has also recognized her for her teaching with the Faculty of the Year Award and the Community Engagement Award.
