John H. Bowman, Black Panther veteran, called to appear before a grand jury in San Francisco, was in jail with four other BPP veterans. In late 2006, John H. Bowman passed away. Tribute was paid to him on January 11, 2007 in Spencer, Oklahoma and on January 28, 2007 in San Francisco, California.
