Abstract

The present article presents a review of two notions employed by the critics of Sergio Pitol's Trilogía de la Memoria: “genre hybridity” and “artistic alchemy,” due to the lack of rigor they are used with. First, the different literary genres present in Pitol’s work are analyzed. Secondly, the article focuses in the inter-artistic dialogue in Pitol's work, in which ekphrasis is the main device. Finally, in light of different points of view (Kraus, Blanchot, Rosmarin), this paper proposes a rereading of Trilogía de la Memoria, as a corpus that questions the literary genres theory and as a textual representation of Pitol’s worldview.
