Abstract

Film production in Costa Rica experiences a discreet awakening that is reflected in the editions of the Havana International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema during the 2010-2018 period. In this article I examine the films Presos (2015), by Esteban Ramírez, Violeta al fin (2017) by Hilda Hidalgo and Medea (2017) by Alexandra Latishev, as significant samples of Costa Rica’s cinema. Content analysis, textual symbolic hermeneutics and documentary observation aid in determining the aesthetic contributions of these films to the movie art in this country, and their contribution to Central American film production of that period.
