Abstract

Manlio Argueta’s Cuzcatlán, donde bate la mar del sur (1986), provides a representation of El Salvador’s rural area within the context of the military conflict of the 80s, which ended with the signing of the Peace Accords in 1992. This article analyzes the journey Lucía Martínez, the main character of the story, undertakes to join a Revolutionary Committee to pass judgement on a member of the Salvadoran Army, corporal Pedro Martínez, captured by guerrilla forces of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and accused of killing several peasants.
