About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Politika, the Undergraduate Journal of International Affairs, Politics and Policy is a bilingual, peer-reviewed publication at the University of Ottawa. We publish academic articles and commentary written by undergraduate students on international affairs, politics, political theory, and public policy.
The journal is a subsidiary of the International, Political and Policy Studies Student Association (IPPSSA), which represents undergraduate students in political science, public administration, international studies and modern languages, and general social sciences at the University of Ottawa.
Ethical commitment
Politika is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, editorial accountability, and adherence to ethical principles throughout all stages of the publication process. To this end, our policies are consistent with the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These policies aim to ensure a fair, rigorous, and research-friendly editorial process.
Manuscript Review Process
Manuscripts submitted to the Undergraduate Journal of International Affairs, Politics, and Policy undergo a structured review process to ensure quality and alignment with the journal's standards. Manuscripts deemed eligible proceed to a double-blind peer review process.
- Initial Screening: Each submission is reviewed by a Junior Editor to assess its eligibility based on adherence to submission guidelines. Manuscripts that fulfill these criteria proceed to the next stage of the review process.
- Double-Anonymous review : Eligible manuscripts undergo a double-blind editing process, during which editors provide anonymous, detailed feedback and suggest revisions.
- Author Revisions: After receiving editorial feedback, authors are required to address the suggested changes and resubmit their revised manuscript for further evaluation.
- Final Review by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief: The revised manuscript is reviewed by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief to ensure it aligns with the journal’s quality standards and is ready for publication.
- Publication: The finalized manuscript is prepared and published. Please note that op-eds will be published throughout the year whereas articles will be published in the end of year issue.
Open Access Policy
Politika, the Undergraduate Journal of International Affairs, Politics and Policy aims to provide immediate open access to all published content.
Authors retain full copyright of the works published in the journal. All published articles are licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author(s) and source are appropriately credited.
This licensing model affirms the journal’s commitment to open access and the free dissemination of scholarly work. Authors are encouraged to deposit their published work on personal websites and other relevant platforms to maximize visibility and impact.
