As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Intermezzo adheres to The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition, published in 2010. Please refer to this link for more information regarding the guidelines for The Chicago Manual of Style: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/16/contents.html. Please make sure before submitting that your article conformes to the given citing style as well as the formatting guidlines provided below:

  • Papers must not exceed 4000 words.
  • Citations must follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition, with footnotes and a bibliography.
  • Submissions should be in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Rich Text (.rtf) format.
  • The paper must not contain the author's name or any other identifying information; do not include a title page!
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring that copyright laws are followed regarding any scores and/or images reproduced within the paper.
  • Authors may submit only one paper for review in each issue.

  • Your email address and surface mail address.
  • Your current undergraduate year, program, and university.

The Student Editors reserve the right to alter the formatting of any papers that are accepted for publication as well as the right to request editorial changes prior to publication.
