In Canada, as with the United States, research on the transition to postsecondary education and the student experience tends to focus on linguistic majority populations (anglophones) who are registered in English programs in English universities. Furthermore, many studies are quantitative in nature, looking at large statistical data sets. The results presented in this paper are a first attempt to fill an important gap in the research on student experience in higher education by providing a better understanding on how students registered in the French immersion program at the University of Ottawa experience the transition to postsecondary education while pursuing part of their studies in French, their second language. The results are presented from the perspective of the students.
