Abstract

Burnout among Canadian physicians and trainees is a pressing issue, worsening workforce shortages and patient care. Traditional wellness programs have shown inconsistent success, underscoring the need for innovation. This review explores how artificial intelligence (AI) could support mental health in medical education and practice. AI conversational platforms have reduced anxiety and depression through confidential, on-demand interaction. Predictive models using surveys, demographics, and electronic logs identified high-risk individuals with up to 80% accuracy. Combining wearables with workplace data offers continuous monitoring. AI may strengthen wellness strategies with earlier detection and tailored support, though ethical and equity safeguards remain critical.
