About the Journal

Founded in 2009, Potentia is a graduate-level, interdisciplinary scholarly journal which aims to explore contemporary challenges in the fields of international relations, security, and politics. While Potentia's inaugural edition invited University of Ottawa students to contribute, the journal has since welcomed journal submissions from students from across Canada, and abroad. In keeping with the interdisciplinary nature of the journal, Potentia includes papers from a wide range of disciplines including, but not limited to, political science, business, criminology, economics, geography, history, law, sociology, and women’s studies. With the support of both the University of Ottawa and the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS), Potentia celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019.

Students from both master’s and doctorate programs are encouraged to submit manuscripts. Submissions can be in either English or French, and can be formulated as research articles, book reviews, and policy briefs. Potentia is a peer-reviewed journal; submissions are reviewed by Master's or PhD level-graduate students.
