Students in courses on specialized subjects may have different levels of proficiency in the English language. In such situations, the instructor should endeavour to adopt a holistic teaching approach to promote understanding of the course content along with enhancement of English language skills. Best practice methods based on years of practical experience in the delivery of specialized courses at an advanced level will be described. A sociological approach and the application of sociological terms are intended to show how instructor engagement and efficacy are essential to advancing the language capabilities of non-native English speaking students.Downloads
