L'insécurité linguistique comme objet de discours : une comparaison Québec-Acadie

This article analyses the expression linguistic insecurity as an object of discourse in the French-speaking press in Canada from 1990 to 2022, by comparing a Quebec corpus (La Presse) and an Acadian corpus (Acadie Nouvelle). Using a historicizing approach, the authors show that linguistic insecurity received greater media attention at different times: in the 1990s and early 2000s in Quebec and from 2018, in Acadia. They note that, in the Quebec corpus, linguistic insecurity is treated as a political issue linked to a concern about the future of French in Quebec; in the Acadian corpus, it is rather a public issue that relates to the illegitimacy of varieties of Acadian French. The comparison of the two discursive spaces shows that the thematization of the expression is linked to sociopolitical conditions and intergroup relations.
